Discrepancy between QID: N254 and NA301? - Port speed for VLAN trunking - SPGervais - 02-06-2011 I am confused by the seemingly different answers given by the two questions in regards to the port speed requirements for 802.1Q VLAN trunking. QID: NA301 says "Yes, it's true that 802.1Q trunks can use 10Mbps Ethernet but it is not common practice and not recommended". In addition there is a link that states in part: "802.1Q encapsulation is now available on the built-in 10BaseT Ethernet interfaces of the Cisco 2610, 2611, and 2612..." Now in QID: N254 asks "[switch with 3 VLANs, router on a stick]...What type of interface is necessary on the router if only one connection is to be made between the router and the switch?" The correct answer according to how2pass is 100 Mbps Ethernet. Is there a problem here, is one question incorrect, or am I missing something? Re: Discrepancy between QID: N254 and NA301? - Port speed for VLAN trunking - megathumpzilla - 09-24-2011 10mb links are only allowed on a subset of switches. If you don't know what platform the switches are, 100 is a sure thing but 10 could fail |
