I'm a little confused by the question:
An administrator is in the process of changing the configuration of a router.  What command will allow the administrator to check the changes that have been made prior to saving the new configuration?

Correct Answer: Router#show running-config

There's a very good chance that I'm misinterpreting this question, but shouldn't the admin be checking the startup-configuration if they want to compare before saving?  Unless the running-config hasn't been altered, wouldn't a sh run show their current configuration rather than prior?

You want to do a show run prior to saving your config and verify the changes you wanted to make were made. Showing the startup config will not show any changes made since the last time you wrote the running config back. The key in the question is where it says that he is in the process of changing things indicating that he wants to verify changes prior to saving.

Show Running Config (sh run) shows the current state of your IOS config (changes)

Show Startup Config (sh start) shows you the config that has last been saved to startup conifg (no changes)

Ahh.  I was completely misreading this as an admin trying to compare his current configuration with what he booted to or what he had prior to his current configuration; not an admin verifying his work before saving.

I understand what the question is asking now.  Thanks a ton for the clarification!
